My new job!

Last week, I got promoted! After working in customer service with my company for five months, I was offered the position with our Risk Department as the Collections Specialist. Because I speak Spanish as a customer service representative, the CS Department didn't want me to leave right away to train, so I waited and waited for a month until the HR manager grabbed me on my way to my desk and let me know that I would begin training the next day. I was ecstatic! I have loved working for my company since I started in October, and getting to move up to our Risk Department and explore a different side of our company is just what I was hoping for when I started. Of course, I haven't escaped the Customer Service Department just yet - because both me and my friend Mike have moved up to the Risk Department, CS has lost two Spanish speakers, so Mike takes calls in the morning while I train and I work in the evenings for CS until 7:00. Whew! There have been some long evenings this week!

So far I have mastered our five tools for maintaining negative accounts, the processes for pulling and applying funds, and finally got past the password on my voicemail and changed the prompts from Spanish to English. I've also de-grossed my desk and made it my own. Now, to tackle dealing with irate customers who insist they don't owe us and figure out how to find an outside collections agency that will actually collect funds!

I love my new job. I come to work every day excited to get started and leave with anticipations for the next day. And you know what? I also love having my own cubicle! This is the life!!! (Just kidding about that last part - that phrase would better be applied to, say, having my own Tuscan villa. But hey - it's the little things in life that make each day better, right?)

And my very own Shrute Buck! (It was there when I moved from CS - cha-ching!)

P.S. The chairs in the CS Department are notorious for being totally crappy and even dangerous. My friend Cheick has already broken two of them just by sitting in them. This last week, as I was walking by our CS Department to fax something, my friend Darren (one of our IT gurus, who is a great pal and from South Africa!) sat in one of the CS chairs, there was a great snapping noise, and he went over backward. I inspected the evil chair later - it had been put in time-out next to our shredder bin - and "fixed" the sign someone had pinned to the back. (If you look close enough, you can see the left-hand side totally snapped in half.)

Good point! I'll have to add one in. ; P I wish I had a picture of Karl in his knight-in-shining-armor costume!

Congratulations!! That is so exciting for you! Your cubicle is indeed lovely, and how cool that you get to use your Spanish... even if it is with irate people. :) My Spanish has sadly waned as of late, so I think it is awesome that you will be able to use it regularly.
By the way, thank you for your kind comments. You always make me feel good!
