The Canon Center revisited

In celebration of being together for a full weekend with no work scheduled, Kenny and I went to breakfast at the Cannon Center this Saturday. What, you say? Why would anyone choose to eat at the dorm cafeteria when they no longer live in the dorms and subsist on a meal plan? Because the new Cannon Center is awesome. It is still under construction - at least the commons area and outside are - but the dining area is incredible.

Kenny had been to the Cannon Center this week with his capstone group for a breakfast meeting and was astounded. He could hardly wait for us to go back, and admits to having dreamed about the omelets in the interim. So we trekked over to the cafeteria in the rather misty morning, and I was equally blown away. Megan, you just wouldn't believe it! While the Cannon Center of our experience was rather shabby and nondescript, it was the setting for many memorable moments and lots of fun. This Cannon Center, on the other hand, is chic and up-to-date. There are so many different stations where you can stop for food, beverages, a fruit bar, a grill area, and even four different kinds of granitas that you don't have to pay extra for! There is a dessert area with bins of toppings that will make your mouth water, and all kinds of creative seating arrangements, not to mention a panoramic view of Mt. Timpanogos and Y Mountain. It was breathtaking, and I kept wondering why BYU couldn't have built this new Cannon Center just a little bit earlier to Megan and I could have enjoyed it when we were in the dorms!

Here are some shots of the new and improved Cannon Center for your viewing delight:

A side entrance to the cafeteria - already my curiosity is peaked!

Brand new lockers line a breezy hallway:

What? A cozy fireplace, even? What we missed out on!

The view from where we sat. Isn't it amazing?

Where was all this when we were here??? Megan, I tell you, if given the chance to do it over again, I totally would!!! This was such a cool experience, seeing how beautiful the new Cannon Center was, and I was totally impressed. While I loved the dorm experience that Megan and I shared in 2000 and 2001, I was summarily impressed with what students get to enjoy these days. BYU is such a beautiful school, and we know how to do it right!

Trees beginning to bloom - I love campus!

Megan, come out and visit and we'll hit up campus together - I miss you!!!
