The Sweetest Taste

When the ordinary world gets stressful,  sometimes the best remedy is to go outside and pick strawberries in the sunshine.  In your pajamas.  Granted, you will get a sunburn on the back of your neck, but you will also get a delicious treat to enjoy for days afterward and peace, quiet, and the gorgeousness of nature to enjoy!

A patch of ruby fruit warms in the sun:

And I thought my folks got rid of most of our strawberry plants!

A hidden gem!

Even the unintentional strawberry plants bear copious fruit!

The first bounteous harvest.  The back of my neck hurts for some reason....

I'm so excited to be home and taste fresh-picked berries! I'm even more excited to eat berries picked by offspring slave labor, as my girls are still at the stage where work looks like fun. Hee hee!

Yes, excellent... "Look, girls! See how much FUN you can have out here picking berries? You need more baskets? Certainly! Get Auntie Katie a Coke while your little fingers are hard at work -er, I mean play, okay? Yeah..."

You two had it so soft. What time does the sun come up in June? Too $!#@^$ early, as I can testify to having seen way too many dawns with my knees in the dirt, 6 hallacks sitting in a carrier staring back empty and waiting for me to plunge my arms up to the elbows in wet leaves in search of a Hood strawberry; the toil of shoving a 3/4 full carrier through the dirt in search of more berries, roundly cursing the grower, the processor, my parents, the straw boss, the blistering sun...
