Ken's parents came out to visit in November for the holidays, and part of their visit included a weekend trip to St. George and Southern Utah, including Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park. We saw different incredible vistas of Bryce Canyon, drove through Zion National Park at dusk, and visited the local sites in St. George, an early Mormon pioneer settlement. While the wild outdoors at Bryce were much colder than we expected, St. George provided a beautiful respite from the encroaching chilly winter weather. Enjoy the pictures in the cozy warmth of your home!

Megan and I first visited this beautiful valley, tucked away in a pine-covered cluster of hills, with Grandma Mickey and Grandpa Bud when we were in high school. The pristine and snug little community, encircling the Pine Valley Chapel, won such a place in Megan's heart that she declared it her favorite spot in Southern Utah. Upon my return about ten years later, I realized again why she loved it so much - it is a breath of heaven in an otherwise wild and arid wilderness.
The attic of the chapel - built by a young Scotsman who had been a shipbuilder in his native land, the roof was fashioned like an upside-down ship and proved as snug as a sea-going vessel:
The main chapel area, its ceiling echoing a ship's graceful curves:
(More to follow - my camera died right after this photo so I have to scan the 35 mm pictures we took of the valley.)

I LOVED that little valley! Another tidbit: Grandma Mickey wrote me a postcard with that chapel on it after we attended our first testimony meeting in the Tualatin stake (she asked how we liked our first "crying Sunday," even though our first F&T meeting was in San Diego when we were 10). I kept that picture on the wall next to my desk for years.
p.s. Those temple pics look professional! And sadly, my house is freezing right now, so even Bryce Canyon looks inviting.
No way! I didn't realize she had sent that postcard. How cool! I really will scan and upload the 35 mm pics onto the blog - they are so beautiful, and more vista oriented.
Katie - you look so beautiful sitting on the temple steps.
Thanks, Mom! I was super happy because I was thawing out from the frigid weather of Bryce Canyon the day before.
