Kenny definitely had the one-up on me a few nights ago as we were reading the Book of Mormon together before bed. We had just finished reading Mosiah Chapter 22, where the people of King Limhi are converted to the Lord by Ammon and his brethren and manage to escape from the bondage of the wicked Lamanites by leaving with their flocks, herds, and families through the back pass of the city by night.
As we ended the chapter, I slipped the bookmark into place and asked Kenny, "Isn't there a story in the Book of Mormon where the Nephites escape from the city by hiding under their sheep so the Lamanites can't find them?"
He burst out laughing. "No, that's The Odyssey! Unless of course the Nephites were trying to escape from the Lamanite Cyclops!" I started laughing, too, trying to picture Odysseus leading a group of Nephites out of the land to safety. Would Scylla or Charybdis make an appearance during the exodus from Jerusalem to the New World? Silly me for getting my classics mixed up with my scripture! "Wow," I told Kenny, "I'm impressed! The last classical book I read was The Iliad, and it was boring! Well done!"
