A Prayer for Japan

As soon as I turned on the radio this morning news of the 8.9 magnitude earthquake in eastern Japan and the ensuing tsunami came pouring through the speakers.  The destruction and disaster is beyond my comprehension - hundreds are dead so far, with far more to be discovered in the days to come.  My heart hurts for these people that I have never met, but who are my brothers and sisters.

I am praying that in this time of hurt, fear, and panic, Heavenly Father's blessings will rest upon all.  I don't know why there is so much hurt and misery in the world, but I do know that He has the power to heal.  I'm grateful to know that both my Church and my country have the resources to mobilize immediately to alieviate the suffering of others.

A scripture comes to mind from the Book of Mormon that invites all who come unto Christ to "mourn with those that mourn, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort."  I hope we each do that in whatever way we can to help our brothers and sisters on the other side of the world.
