Random Question of the Week #2

Sorry, I know I skipped a week or three in there somewhere, but I am making amends. For this week's random question, I wondered: if you were to be canonized as a Catholic saint, what would you be the patron saint of?

While I never prayed to a Catholic saint growing up, preferring to address my prayers to God directly (no middle man for me, thanks!), I did enjoy reading about the saints' tortured lives, gruesome deaths, and spooky miracles. I always had a soft spot in my heart for Saint Francis, the patron saint of animals, as he and I shared not only a name, but a love for all of God's creatures (minus snakes). Saint Maria Goretti was another favorite, as her picture was so beautiful and her story of purity so touching. When I lived in Siena, Italy, a medieval town nestled in the heart of Tuscany and famous for its Palio and the birthplace of banking, I shared a name with the town's patron saint, Santa Caterina. My bosses at the little hotel I took to calling me Santa Caterina, not only because "Katie" is hard to pronounce in Italian, but probably also because I wouldn't teach them any English swear words or naughty hand signals.

Reflecting upon my penchant for misplacing keys in unfortunate locations, I think my mishaps might serve me well in becoming the patron saint of people locked out of their house or car. Each time I've shut that door with my keys behind it, I've been able to wriggle out of a tragic situation by one MacGuyver-like scheme or another, so I suppose that would be my saintly blessing to the world - the ability to get those darned keys out of a locked car or house, come heck or high water.

What would you be the patron saint of?

The patron saint of parents afflicted with a colicky infant, definitely.

Or the patron saint of people who dislike the sounds of sinus difficulties in other people (of course, I've been sniffing all day, so this might disqualify me).

There is coughing that goes on at my work unabated and untreated by, oh, I don't know, a DRINK or a COUGH DROP. It's very irritating.
