On Friday night (after Ken braved the crowds at 4:00 am and I worked my regular 8-5), we gathered with Megan, Karl, Camryn, our college friend Craig, and Dad and traveled up to Salt Lake City to see the lights at Temple Square and officially greet the Christmas season. The lights were beautiful, sparkling reminders of the joy of the Christmas season and the Savior's birth, and a life-sized nativity scene brought all our thoughts to center on that tiny baby whose advent into mortality was heralded by angels and signs and wonders in heaven. We all felt much cozier than the wintery weather warranted, helped in part by a brisk walk from our parking spot a few blocks away (and these are Salt Lake City blocks, mind you!) and the toasty hot chocolate Dad bought us on the corner just outside the walls of Temple Square. But mostly our warmth and cheer emanated from the knowledge that our Savior lives and the closeness and comfort we felt as a family, together.
