Activities

Although the neighborhood where we live is a little run-down (lots of rentals, weird neighbors, arrests near or on our lawn), there are perks to living where we do. For one, we can walk to the store (while I was there yesterday three police cars were out in the parking lot and police were breaking into a car there). We can get on the freeway really fast. And we live near a park! Last night Kenny proposed taking our rollerblades out for a spin. And even though I haven't rollerbladed since our honeymoon, I didn't fall down once! We waved to our nearby neighbors, an elderly couple with an impeccable lawn who often sit outside evenings with friends, and made our way across the street and to the cool, green, tree-filled park. We skated around the outside of the park so as not to terrorize other park-goers and reminisced about skating on the beach on our honeymoon in San Diego. I even managed to conquer cracks in the sidewalk, random pieces of gravel, and deftly maneuvered around bits of tree in my way. We didn't spend too long at the park - Kenny thought it would get too dark too soon - and besides, the cops came and the park emptied, so we figured we'd head home. I'm looking forward to our next outdoor adventure!

A few nights ago Kenny and I noticed a whole crowd of people in medieval garb in the park as we walked to the store. What a chance sighting! We often wonder at the many students here in Provo that belong to the different "medieval" clubs on campus - you can see them roaming campus in various costumes, gathering outside medieval tents pitched here and there on grassy stretches, and mock-fighting with an odd assortment of weapons. One of Kenny's goofy coworkers came into Shopko with a nasty black eye a few weeks ago - it turns out that Thursday nights are Medieval Fight Night at a nearby park, and he got in the way of a javelin mid-flight. Tee hee hee! We craned our necks for a good glimpse of the activities across the street in the park, then made our way to Albertson's. When we came out, laden with groceries, the park was empty! "What, did a dragon show up?" Kenny wondered. "Where did everybody go?" We decided that we'll have to cruise by the park Thursday nights for a better look at the, um, festivities.

Kenny got tired from all that skating!
